Not a lot to report -- I'm heading off to Indiana tomorrow for my Grandfather's funeral. He was an amazing man, the basis for many stories and fabulous memories... Unfortunately, he has been trapped by Alzheimer's for many years, and I'm happy he's finally free... I'm going back into the snow and ice to celebrate a wonderful life. I'll be freezing, but warm and cozy with family.
Love, peace and snow angels -----

Workin' Out...
I'm on a kick to lose the extra padding I've acquired over the last few months... we say we've been fat and happy, well, I'm ready to be just happy :) So, in the interest of a rock-hard Hollywood butt, I've been at the gym. And last night, I decided to join David and rollerblade home from work. At 1am. 6 miles. Wow. I have to say, my butt hurts today. No pain no gain, I suppose, but wow. You folks in the flat states may not realize it, but we have some hills here. Oh boy, do we have some hills. I think I'm gonna do it again tomorrow night. I'm on a mission...
Last night at work, I had the giddy pleasure of waiting on Dean Butler, better known to you and me as Almanzo Wilder of "Little House on the Prairie." Go ahead, look him up on the internet -- yeah, now you know who I'm talking about. Cool, huh? Ok, for those of you not born early enough to catch "Little House," evidently he was a regular as Buffy's father on "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer." And to top things off, he and David had the same 6th grade teacher. Small world, indeed. His wife is also an actress, someone I'd know in a heartbeat, but can't tell you where or her name to save my life. Ahh Hollywood, land of a million actors, only a few you can name by name. One you can actually name came in today, and that was Chris Rock, with his wife, Malaak Compton-Rock and their two beautiful daughters. Wow, what an amazingly beautiful family!! For some reason I thought he was taller... Ok, another one just for you teens and twenty-somethings -- Mike Erwin from "Everwood" not only came in, he evidently grew up with one of the girls I work with. You know, acting is just a job, people, it doesn't make you different, or better, or anything. It just makes you really recognizable and gets you into the cool clubs and gets you the best seats in restaurants (I'm getting used to sitting at the little bastard tables next to the door or the kitchen *sigh*) and gets you cool clothes and gets you lots of friends and attention. At least it does if you're lucky enough to get work, which means you've spent every waking hour busting your ass in the gym and watching every damn thing that goes in your mouth (I swear, they market WATER as lo-carb here), and being very aware of every item of clothing on your body, and schmoozing just enough not to be annoying and getting into the right auditions and beating out the millions of wannabes here to say two lines on film so that some jagoff casting guy can see you and offer you something where you'll be *tastefully nude* and that some other random person will accidently see you and give you a chance in some indy film where you'll actually get noticed by real players who put you on the a-train to the good seats in the restaurant... Wanna be an actor? Or do you just want to be famous? They're two very different things, my friend, and very rarely do you get to be both.
Enough for tonight... gotta get some sleep so I can be the renegade rollerblader tomorrow night!!!

Robert Englund, me, Tim Sullivan and Lin Shaye hamming it up... (unfortunately, Tim's fingers are blocking Lin, who's doing her signature line from "Kingpin" -- eeeeuuwww - you know the one... and unfortunately also, I couldn't get the damn camera to work - Robert was doing his Freddy tongue in my ear...)
Signs I live in Hollywood... I turn on the radio, and the dj is Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols (my new favorite station Indie 103.1 -- although I'm still loving KCRW an awful lot)... I see certain celebrities on a semi-daily basis and don't bat an eyelash... I have to drive through packs of tourists just to get out of my neighborhood... my neighborhood includes the Hollywood & Highland complex, which consists of both the Kodak Theatre (home of the Oscars) and Grauman's Chinese, where you can see the foot/handprints of a hundred stars (and you can also see two Spidermen with fanny packs chatting... and have your picture made with any number of faux celebrities)... I routinely see shows/movies/music videos filming while on my way to work... I can see the Hollywood sign from basically anywhere in my daily trek (including walking from my car to work - although I once doubted that it was indeed the sign, if you'll recall, and thought it was some rich guy's house -- yup, it's actually the Hollywood sign... so there). Anyway, it's my own personal Surreal Life going on every day (I'm still oddly attracted to the show, tho -- that Verne Troyer is extra special).
Have you ever wanted a soundtrack to your life? You know, like in the movies, where a lot of different things happen while a rockin' or meaningful tune plays and that's all you can hear. Driving to work yesterday, listening to some cool techno on KCRW's "Morning Becomes Eclectic," I passed the aforementioned chatting Spideys, legions of tourists snapping pics at the Chinese, a music video filming a crowd outside a club (at 10am), and a few Hollywood Hipster-types strolling down Sunset. Trippy.
I know, you want me to get to the dish. Well, my friends, it's a smorgasbord!!! For those of you not from the midwest, or unfamiliar with Polish/German terminology, that's a heck of a lot of yummy stuff in one place. That's what we've got here today, kiddies!!! Let's get to it. In one night, my restaurant saw Rachel Hunter, Ossie Davis, Breckin Meyer (with the cutest baby girl I've ever seen -- what a doll-baby), Wink Martindale and Peter Falk. We thought it might be "throwback to the 70's" night, and had a game to see who the most perfect 70's celeb would be to come in next... Adam Rich? Joyce DeWitt? Ahhh, the possibilities. I'll tell you one thing, Wink Martindale in person is a surreal experience. *shudder*
Wednesday 2 weeks ago was the best ever... Anthony Kiedes. Even non-Red Hot Chili Peppers fans gotta admit this guy is sexy. Shorter than I would have expected, but hot.
Have I told you about my Sushi Roku experience? This is our new favorite midweek hang. Great sushi, fabulous bartender. On our last visit, we saw Judd Nelson cavorting in the bar, and I sat next to George Eads (CSI). Fun!
Back to the restaurant -- Enrique Marciano (Without a Trace -- our new favorite), Ja Rule, Bruno Campos (Suddenly Susan... a hottie), Jaime Richards (David's friend, also a regular on Angel), and a very sweet Heavy D (without his Boys).
I had the pleasure of attending a screening party for 2001 Maniacs last week. I didn't actually see the movie (that night -- I got to see it this week with the director), but we happened to be in the neighborhood... ok, we stalked the screening :) It was actually pretty cool -- we watched the crowd line up outside, and hung out and watched them all leave. I tried not to be seen, but actually got caught by John Landis of all people at the Barnes & Noble next door. Pretty cool that he remembered me :) We came out of hiding and got invited to the after-party reception, where I reunited with Robert Englund and Lin Shaye, as well as Adam Robitel, Ryan Fleming and Dylan Edrington, all co-stars in the film. I also got to chat with Eli Roth, Scott Spiegel, several of the other producers, a bunch of Hollywood types, and Tony Timpone, the editor of "Fangoria" magazine. We're all hoping my pic gets on the cover one of these days...

And in the "it's a small world" category, the amazing Suzanne Whang and my Maniacs co-star Lin Shaye are related by marriage and great friends. How cool is that?
For those of you concerned about the freaky weather we've been having out here, don't worry -- no big boulders or mudslides or snow or floods here in Hollywood. I can't say the same for the poor folks in Topanga or just North of here, but we just got buckets of rain, which this city just isn't equipped to deal with. The weather now? In the 80's friend... in the 80's. Have I been out frolicking and enjoying the sunny SoCal scene at the beach? Nope, I've been in bed sleeping off the flu or working. Ack. I'm all better now, but I have a feeling this weather won't hold until my next day off. Can't complain, tho -- my family in Indiana and Michigan is probably up to their eyeballs in frost and cold.
Well, enough for now. I'm going to post a few pictures (sorry about the quality -- my camera phone just isn't great at night -- time for a new camera!!) and get to my taxes. *Sigh* A big task, I'm afraid, what with all the life changes and moving and write-offs I've had this year. Well, at least life hasn't been boring!!!
Namaste, friends -- hope to hear from you all soon!!! :)

David & I at the Holiday Bowl. Damn shame. Ok, I'm gonna rant here for a second --- I love my Michigan Wolverines, but I'd much rather see them against Cal in the Rose Bowl tomorrow... Yes, I'd rather risk the wrath of David's family by rooting for my A'maize-n-blue against their Bears than see what happened this week. Those kids fought hard and deserved their roses. My Wolverines better tan some Texas hide, cuz Cal would have seriously given them a run for their money. Next year, watch out for those Bears. Until then, M go BLUE!!! Hail to the Victors valiant, Hail to the conquering heroes, Hail, Hail to MICHIGAN, the champions of the West.... ;)
